Not doing very well

Here is how far I've gotten. Not doing so well. I've ripped it back and restarted 3 times now. This is the most complicated pattern I've done yet. I think I'm getting it down but I find I'm losing track of where I am. Any suggestions?

  1. I made a copy of the chart. I have the copy on a magnetic board (which you can get at a craft store). I have one magnet above the line I am on and one below. After I've completed a knitting session, I write in a small notebook the last row I finished in case the magnets move when I'm not looking. I hope this helps!

  2. I wish I had some advice, but have never done lace before. Keep at it, I am sure it will get there. My package was delayed, so I have not started yet, but I am sure I will soon join you in ripping and re-starting! :-)

  3. In my earlier post, I assumed you meant trouble keeping track of which row you were on. In re-reading it, you could mean a number of things. I am also using stitch markers to help within the row. When I am purling the even rows, I count the stitches between the markers to make sure I've still got the right number. There are a few rows where I have to interchange a stitch and the marker (SSK or K2tog) but I would be completely lost without them. If neither of my comments were helpful, maybe you could be more specific on where you lose track of the pattern.

  5. I too make a copy of the chart and write on it.

Also when I first started lace life lines were, pardon the pun, a life saver. I would use them every couple of rows. Good luck. For me nothing is more beautiful than a lace scarf.

  6. A "life line" is a string of yarn/thread/dental floss that you run through a row of stitches - usually at the end (or beginning) of a charted pattern. That way, if you mess up and need to frog (rip out) stitches - you can rip out back to the "life line" without having to start over again!
